What is detailing?
The term “Detailing” originated in America, their version of “Valeting” if you like, and in recent years has created a huge impact in the UK, for both professionals and enthusiasts alike. Detailing has brought an explosion in the sheer number of products and knowledge available to maintain and care for vehicles and has injected enthusiasm into the whole scene for everyone to enjoy.
Valeting and Detailing are now quite different in terms of how they are perceived. In its very nature the word detailing implies extraordinary care and attention, at JSG Detailing we offer you no less than this.
Detailing then is in effect very high quality preparation of a vehicle which aims to prepare and care for every surface as carefully and thoroughly as possible, adding protection to help reduce ongoing issues in the future.
Why detail?
Elements - Your vehicle is under constant attack from the elements, various factors induce contamination onto and into the paint surface. General dirt, acid rains, industrial fallout, as well as things like road salts and even sunlight can, over time, lead to a reduction in the quality and look of the finish. The good news is that regular care and maintenance can help prevent the long term effects, however quite often it is the lack of this regular maintenance that leaves vehicles requiring the work of professionals to correct.
People - The human factor is also a huge contribution to how well a vehicle will look, some people simply do not care for taking the time to look after a vehicle with the passion that an enthusiast might. If you subsequently purchase a vehicle that has been neglected then quite often time needs to be taken to restore it to its former glory.
Climate – Our particular climate here in the UK can be quite harsh for a vehicle to endure, and the subsequent requirement for more regular cleaning is quite possible the largest singular cause of damage to paint surfaces. Even when the utmost care is taken, it can never be guaranteed 100% that damage will not occur while cleaning. Over in some parts of the United States the biggest problem is quite often dust, however here in the UK your vehicle will endure large swings from extreme cold to hot temperatures, regular rain and subsequent dirt, road salts in the winter etc, all of this combines to result in a varied climate which normally requires a more regular cleaning routine, if this routine is not extremely careful then surface damage more often than not will occur.
Who is detailing for?
A lot of people are unsure who detailing is for, and struggle to see the point of such in depth work, in short detailing is aimed at the enthusiast owner who cherishes their vehicle, however everyone will see the transformation of even the most mundane vehicle when it has been properly inspected and prepared using quality products and good technique. For example and owner wishing to invest in some preparation work prior to selling a vehicle may find that the market value increases when the vehicle is advertised in pristine condition – either that or they may end up wanting to keep the vehicle when they see how good it can look!
Quite often the transformation can be stunning – a bit like watching a high definition movie when compared to a standard type – and the extra definition, surface gloss and reflection highlights lines and curves the car designer wanted you to see, further enhancing your enjoyment of the vehicle.
Detailing a car really is a “no lose” situation, as there is always an improvement of some degree to be made, if you are unsure of how to start out and what to have done, feel free to talk to us, hopefully our enthusiasm for this comes across in our writings here and we will always be happy to chat and go through the process in a non pressurising way with you.
